How many times have you been watching a show, movie or sports event on television and thought to yourself, ?I wish I could pause this for a few minutes,? or ?That was great! I wish I could see it again?? Recently I found out that you can do just that with The DVR Plus, a relatively new satellite TV service offered by DirecTV and other satellite programming companies. The DVR is a wonderful, easy-to-use service that allows me to pause, rewind, and instantly play back any live television broadcast right from my remote. I can honestly say that I love my Directv DVR!
I found out quite a bit about how my DVR works from the DirecTV installer. If you own a VCR, you know that you can pause, rewind and play back portions of the taped program at any time. The DVR technology works with a DVR (digital video recorder) to create a function that appears to work just like your VCR. Actually, though, the way it works is this: when you pause a live program or a movie using TiVo, the DVR instantly begins recording and storing the television feed, while freezing the image on the screen just like the pause button on a VCR would do. Also, the program you have been watching has a ?buffer? (usually the last hour or so) automatically created in the DVR?s hard drive, so you can ?rewind? the program for instant replays or in unexpected circumstances?such as when you didn?t have time to press pause, or left during the commercials and came back too late.
The Direct TV DVR Deal is especially great for me and my son, who is notorious for missing parts of a movie we?re watching because he has to go to the bathroom! Now, whenever that happens, I can just pause the show or movie and we don?t miss a minute of it. When the phone rings or unexpected company drops by, I can simply stop the movie and pick up right where I left off, whenever it?s convenient for me. My son really loves the instant replay feature?now when he says, ?I want to see that again!?, he can! It?s so easy to use DVR?s features, because it works right from the DirecTV remote just as a VCR or DVD player would. You don?t have to learn any special programming features or try to navigate on-screen menus to find the feature you need. It?s all there at the push of a button.
There are even more great features with The Direct TV DVR. If you?re like me, you hate commercials. You can use The DVR to record the programs you want to watch ahead of time, and then set it to skip the commercials when you play it back. It?s even better than a VCR, because with video tapes you still have to watch the commercials when you hit fast-forward. TiVo just skips right over them! You can also skip commercials when you rewind. We?re happy to have a DVR from DirecT TV, because now we?ll never miss a minute of our favorite shows again.
